A FITTING GUIDE ON HOW TO MAKE BODICES, TOPS
AND DRESSES FIT.

I put this free fitting guide together as a “Thank You” to the 50,000+ Followers who have watched my fitting-correction videos on Instagram and Facebook.

You have kept me going over the last year, making over 85 fitting videos. I wish, so much, that I had this amazing sewing community when I started to sew 30 years ago. You Inspire me and so many others to create beautiful items.

We are proud of creating and the joy we have from sewing enriches us. We continually learn so much with each new item we sew, whether it’s about fitting, workmanship, design, fabrics or finding our style.

This past year, I’ve focused on learning how to teach. Passing on what I’ve learned over the last 17 years of working in the garment industry. I’ve learned how to make each step simple and concise. And each time I think I’ve given enough videos to explain the multitude of ways we can correct the fitting, there are countless more ways that pop up in my head.

If there is anything, I’ve learned over the years in Pattern Making, it’s that there is not one way to do it . I challenge you to think outside of the box. There is not one right-way. There may be a better way.

This guide includes the top 5 most-liked fitting videos from my Instagram account @GinaReneeDesigns . If you want the complete collection, I’m writing a Fitting Book which will be available soon.

When you download this free guide below, you’ll start receiving a few emails from me. One of those emails will be about the fitting book that will be released (hopefully later this year!). So, you’ll be the first to know when it’s ready! I hope you enjoy making patterns fit you perfectly.

HOW TO USE PATTERNMAKING RULERS

MUST-HAVE PATTERN MAKING TOOLS: HIP CURVE, GRID RULERS, AND FRENCH CURVE

THE BEST FRENCH CURVE
FOR PATTERNMAKING..

Not all French curves are created equal.

Do you want in on my secret to perfect armholes and necklines? Not all French curves are created equal... There is something about this specific French Curve (paidlink*) that really gives a perfect shape along the armholes and necklines. I have used many other French curves and somehow, the results are never as good. If you're looking for the right Pattern Making tools, I definitely recommend the Lance French Curve (paidlink*).

I’ve created a free guide you can download below, showing you how to create perfect shapes along each seam for both Tops and Pants. This guide shows you how to get smooth and continuous lines along your pattern seams.

When you download your free guide below, you’ll learn how to use the Hip Curve, French Curve and Rulers (paidlinks*) on pants & top patterns. It shows where I like to place the rulers/curves in the general areas. I show the direction the rulers should be placed for the best lines.

You can find my favorite Hip curve, French Curve and the grid rulers (paidlinks*) at your local fabric store or available to purchase on Amazon.

I hope you love your free guide! Pattern tools make life so much easier and knowing how to use them is key in pattern making!

TWO OF MY VERY FAVORITE PATTERN MAKING
TOOLS: MY HIP CURVE AND GRID RULERS.

I’m going to explain just exactly how amazing these pattern tools really are!

Let’s start with the Hip Curve, this ruler helps create the perfect curve for those side seams when designing or altering garments, particularly pants! It not only helps draw the side seam curve for the hip but also curves on the front rise, back rise, inner leg, outer leg, and waistband; anywhere where a slight curve is needed in the pattern, this is a brilliant tool to use. I find this hip curve my favorite shape and it’s my go-to tool for pattern making. (see pages 2, 3, and 4 of the guide) (PaidLinks*)

The hip curve is also great for creating smooth curves for lapels, side seams, and necklines on tops. It has measurements on the curve too so you can accurately measure the seams. If you don’t have one already, it is definitely one of the best investments you’ll make!

Download your free guide below which shows you how to use the hip curve on pants patterns! The guide shows where I like to place the ruler in the general areas. I follow this standard for flipping the ruler up/down as shown in the images. (PaidLinks*)

Secondly the Grid Ruler, I couldn’t make a pattern without my transparent grid ruler. I actually use two, a short one and a long one for different purposes. Long Grid rulers (I suggest 18”) are invaluable for creating straight seams for pants patterns down the leg sides, darts, and hems (see page 5 of the guide).

Short grid rulers are particularly useful for adding seam allowances and drawing in small lines. Download your free guide below which shows you how to use the grid ruler on pants patterns!

You can find the Hip curve and the grid rulers available to purchase here. (Paid-links*)
