Fix Front Rise Wrinkles on Pants Patterns – Step 1: Straighten the Front Rise

Whiskers are for Cats! 😽 We want to avoid them in our pants along the front curve of the rise.

Sometimes it’s just as simple as making the front rise straighter after the crotch curve. It should go 1/4” or 3/8” in, no more. This will prevent any unnecessary tension on the fabric because you will have enough fabric to zip up your pants. You can test this by cutting open or unzipping the front of the pants. If the creases go away, this is the correction to follow.

Steps to Straighten the Front Rise

  1. Determine the end of your front rise curve.
  2. From that ending point, draw a straight line parallel to your grain line.
  3. Add to the front rise to make it straighter. Depending on how much you need, you can either take it off just the front side seam or both the front and back side seams.
    • If you fill in only 3/8” or less at the CF, you may only take it off the front.
    • When it’s more, you may take it off the front and the back.
