Narrow Shoulders Corrections – Move the Armhole
If the slash-and-spread method seems too complicated, try this easier method for increasing shoulder width.
The issue usually comes from the Low Point Shoulder (LPS) being too high at the armhole area, which can create draglines from a tight across-front area.
This is a go-to method because it keeps the shoulder slope consistent.
Step-by-Step Armhole Adjustment for Narrow Shoulders
- Slash open the armhole at the LPS, tape, and pin the amount you want to increase in the across-shoulder area at the armhole.
- Measure the amount you’ve taped and note it down.
- Mark that amount outwards from the armhole at the LPS to achieve your new shoulder width.
- After this adjustment, the armhole may be slightly smaller. You can:
- Slash out a small amount from the sleeve to fit the new armhole, or
- Keep the sleeve as is and lower the armhole slightly to adjust.
This is a simple and effective correction for garments with narrow shoulders and tight across-front areas.
