Pocket Opening Corrections – Making Curved Pockets Bigger
Have you ever had the problem that you can hardly fit your hand in your pockets?! It’s certainly a common problem with store-bought clothes, especially on tight or skinny-fitting pants!
Trick for Curved Pockets on Tight Pants
This is a little trick to do on tight pants with curved pockets. It allows a bit extra room for the hand to get in.
Of course, you need to make sure your pocket opening length is long enough for the width of your hand.
On your pattern, give ⅛ inch to the side seam and the waistline right near your pocket opening. This will be enough to provide extra fabric for your hand to go in.
If the pocket has a facing, it usually goes 1¼ inch into the pocket, so this subtle extra amount of fabric won’t expose the facing’s border.
You’ll see a great trick for straight pockets in the next post.
